North American Spinoza Society – Junior Scholar Workshop
Date: May 5th, 2026 – Location: Online via Zoom

The North American Spinoza Society invites submissions for the upcoming 2nd edition of our Junior Scholar Workshop, to be held virtually on May 5th, 2026. This event aims to foster mentorship, exchange, and intellectual community between early-career Spinoza scholars and established researchers in the field.

We welcome graduate students currently working on dissertations related to any aspect of Spinoza’s philosophy to submit a 300-word abstract drawn from one of their dissertation chapters. Selected participants will have the opportunity to present their work in a focused session and receive in-depth feedback from a senior scholar with expertise in a related area.

To apply, please submit the following:

  • A 300-word abstract (clearly connected to a chapter of your dissertation)

  • Your name

  • Email address

  • Institutional affiliation

  • Current stage of your dissertation (e.g., prospectus stage, writing chapters, near completion)

Please send submissions to: aminah.hasan-birdwell@emory.edu and/or emanuele.costa@vanderbilt.edu.
Deadline for submissions: January 31st

We also invite senior scholars in Spinoza studies to volunteer as mentors for this event. As a mentor, you will be matched with a graduate student working in a subfield aligned with your expertise and asked to offer constructive comments and guidance during their presentation.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email us with:

  • Your name

  • Current institutional affiliation

  • Career stage (e.g., associate professor, full professor, emeritus)

We are deeply grateful to all scholars who help support the next generation of Spinoza research. For any questions about the event or the application process, please contact us at aminah.hasan-birdwell@emory.edu and/or emanuele.costa@vanderbilt.edu.

We look forward to your participation!
